This is my senior photo, taken in 1997 when I was about to graduate from Piedmont High School. I was not exactly the most popular girl on campus.

I was also the only atheist. You can imagine that there were a few strange looks when I didn't stand up and say the pledge of allegiance with everyone else. There was a lot of "You're not really an atheist, are you? What does that mean, anyway?" But, perhaps suprisingly, perhaps not, there wasn't much animosity towards me because of it. I'm not sure if the student body was confused, or just very laid back.
